Renan Ozturk is a Turkish-American rock climber, visual artist, mountaineer, and free soloist. He is popularly known for climbing the Shark’s fin route to Meru Peak in the Himalayas on his second attempt with fellow climbers Conard Anker and Jimmy Chin in 2011.
He suffered from a minor stroke at that time. His prior attempt in 2008 and the successful 2011 ascent of the Shark’s fin on Meru were detailed in the 2015 documentary film. Besides being a renowned climber, he is a popular photojournalist and filmmaker as well.
His beautiful and natural cinematography is captured in the documentaries like Sherpa. Ashes to Ashes, Mountain, etc. He has also taken shots for big brands like Apple, Google, etc., and taken pictures for Nat Geo, and Sony.
He was nearly killed in a ski accident in 2011 in Wyoming.
